I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring (see photo 1), so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:
Both the legendary and real St. Brendan (ca. 484-577) loved traveling over water. Knowledge of Brendan’s prowess as a sailor was spread by a fictional work called "The Voyage of St. Brendan," which recounts his voyage in search of Paradise. The real-life Brendan also loved the sea: traveling from his home in Ireland to Scotland, Wales, and along the Irish coast. (Brendan’s abilities as a sailor are so renowned that some speculate he was the first European to reach the New World.) This medal of Brendan was handmade by Hank Schlau and was cast in lead-free pewter.
