Handmade Medal of Saint Thomas More, Patron of Lawyers, Law Students, Paralegals

Thomas More was one of the greatest legal minds, and writers, in English history. This handmade medal depicts him in court. I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring (see photo 1), so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:

"St. Thomas More, a brilliant lawyer and judge, a devoted and beloved husband and father, and a distinguished intellectual and writer (see 'Utopia,' a word he invented), was executed by Henry VIII because More believed in the law above politics, patronage, and power. In 1534 Henry VIII demanded all citizens take an oath disavowing Henry’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon and repudiating the power of 'any foreign authority, prince or potentate' (i.e., the pope). More, a Catholic, refused and was taken to the Tower of London. In 1535, he was falsely charged with treason. He was beheaded on July 6, 1535. The story of his last days is one of the most tender and heart-rending accounts of courage in the face of injustice in all of history, especially since More was so determinedly forgiving and cheerful. (As the lieutenant led More up the steps toward the scaffold, More said to him, 'Pray, Sir, see me safe up; and as to my coming down, let me shift for myself.') More became the patron of lawyers and law students because he held to the importance of precedent and law and acted with intelligence and persistence. He could well also be the patron of fathers and husbands, for every account of his life depicts his family life as one of love and happiness among all. This medal, cast in lead-free pewter and depicting More in court, was handmade at In the Company of Saints."
