I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:

Buddha (ca. 563-483 B.C.) was born a prince in what is now Nepal. After denouncing the luxuries of his life, he entered a period of extreme ascetic austerities before finally seating himself beneath a Bodhi tree and determining not to arise until he was enlightened. After his enlightenment, he arose and danced about the tree. The core of Buddhism is meditative practice. It is difficult to summarize, but the goal of such practice is to break free of perceptions based in the self so that one can see reality as it is: the very vision that made Buddha dance. This small medal of Buddha in the lotus position, his name in Japanese on the back, was hand carved by Hank Schlau and cast in pewter.

Dimensions: 1.5 inch high
