This handmade medal on a chain is meant to be worn by a nurse or nursing student, as a sign that they are being watched over and guided as they do their difficult work. I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The medal comes on either an 18-inch or 24-inch chain with a lobster clasp. Each necklace comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:
"A guardian angel is one assigned to guide and protect a particular individual or group. Belief in guardian angels extends throughout all antiquity and is developed in both the Old and New Testaments. The front of this medal shows a guardian angel guiding and protecting a nurse at work, treating a patient. The back of the medal has the words “Watch over us,” a call to the guardian angel to assist nurses and nursing students through their days and through their careers. The original of the medal was designed and carved by Hank Schlau at In the Company of Saints, in Covington, Louisiana. The piece is cast in lead-free pewter."
