A handmade medal of St. Aelred. I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring (see photo 1), so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:
"Raised in the Scottish court, Aelred (1110-67) became a monk at 24. He was so well liked in the monastery that he was quickly made abbot. Monasteries at this time repressed “special friendships” among monks, under the belief that any human attachment decreased a monk’s attachment to God. Aelred reversed this, arguing that friendship was a path to love of the Divine: “He who dwells in friendship dwells in God, and God in him.” Aelred thus embodied friendship as an expression of the love of God. Because of this legacy, Integrity USA, an Episcopal LGBTQ organization, has proclaimed St. Aelred its patron. This medal of Aelred was handmade at In the Company of Saints in Covington, Louisiana."
