Patron of Rugged Sports, Hockey, Rugby, Skiing, Mountain Climbing, Football, Skate Boarding: Handmade Medal of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati

"Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-25) didn’t fit the typical image of a saint as frail, ascetic... Rather he was handsome, from a wealthy family, and loved dangerous physical sports and games: climbing sheer cliffs, wild skiing races in the Alps, playing any rough game on frozen lakes, on playing fields.... A well-known photo shows him at an ice-covered peak, holding a simple pick, having scaled the mountain. There was, however, much more to him than his skill at rugged sports. At his funeral (he died at 25), over a thousand people from the slums of Turin showed up. The family didn’t understand, until it became clear that without telling them he had helped every last one of these people in some significant, humble way. This medal shows Frassati on the front and on the back three participants in rugged sports: a hockey player, a skier, and a rugby player. Below them is an appeal to Blessed Frassati: 'Watch Over Us.' The medal was handmade at In the Company of Saints."

I design, carve, and cast the medals myself (see the last three photos for images of the process). The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring, so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states the above text.
