A small, handmade statue of St. Peter Damian, the patron of those who have trouble sleeping. I designed, carved, and cast the sculpture myself in lead-free pewter (the last three photos show part of the process). The piece is meant to be placed on a bedside table. It is also small enough to hold in one's hand. The piece comes boxed and with a history card that states the following:

"Peter Damian (1007-72) was a Benedictine monk and scholar who was so assiduous in fulfilling his duties that he developed severe insomnia. A combination of prayer and clearer focus on his overall goals helped him out of the malady; he continued to work hard, but more at peace. Dante placed him in one of the highest circles of Paradise (where, we can assume, he sleeps well), as a precursor of St. Francis. This statue of Peter, offering a blessing of sleep with one hand and holding a book in the other, was handmade at In the Company of Saints, in Covington, Louisiana. It is meant to be placed by a bed, where it can be seen or held, to give a person having trouble sleeping a sense that they are not alone in the night and that they have someone to pray with and for them." The words on the bottom of the statue say: "St. Peter Damian Pray for Us."
