The front of this handmade small statue has an image of St. Luke, the patron of physicians, medical students, and writers, holding up a book and being thankful for guidance. A bull, Luke's symbol (see text below), is at his feet. I carved the original of the statue and cast it in modified gypsum with bronze powder. I then carved the insert and cast it in lead free pewter. Carvings of angels flank the insert. The back has two scribes at their desks, flanking a scroll that comes with the piece. The scroll contains the following text:

"In Colossians (4:14), St. Paul refers to St. Luke as 'the beloved physician,' and thus he is the patron of doctors. The reference suggests that Luke was known not only for his medical skill but also for kindness toward his friends and patients. Luke is one of the patrons of writers because he wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, two of the most important texts in the last two thousand years. The information we have about Luke thus points to a man of compassion, kindness, skill, and intelligence. In Christian iconography, Luke’s symbol is an ox (or bull), a symbol of sacrifice, service, and strength. This piece was handmade at In the Co. of Saints in Covington, Louisiana."

Dimensions: 4 inches high x 3.5 wide x 2.25 deep
The piece also come with a card that states the above history.
