The handmade medal is meant to be worn or given to a physician or medical student. I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring (see photo 1), so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:

In Colossians, St. Paul refers to Luke as “the beloved physician,” and thus he is the patron of doctors. Luke also happens to be one of the patrons of writers because he wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, two texts of immense import. Both texts contain precise descriptions of illness and healing, thus further suggesting Luke’s role as a gentle and compassionate physician. Underscoring this point, Luke’s Gospel emphasizes the role of the poor, the stricken, and the outcast in the ministry of Jesus. In sum, all these sources depict a skilled physician who was kind and helpful to all. This medal of Luke at his desk was handmade at In the Company of Saints.
