This medal, of Joseph of Cupertino, is meant to be carried or worn by pilots and anxious airline passengers. I design, carve, and cast the medals myself. The medals are made of lead-free pewter and have designs on both sides. The pendant comes with a jump ring (see photo 1), so it can easily be attached to any chain you have. This listing is for the pendant alone, but it does come with a split ring so it can also be used on a key chain (see photo of packaging). Each medal comes in a felt jewelry pouch with a history card that states:
"St. Joseph of Cupertino (1603-63, a Franciscan) is the patron saint of pilots because he could fly–but without an aircraft. Unlike many miracles, there are repeated (70) sober records of these flights: before a Spanish ambassador to the papal court; before hostile Inquisitors; before a skeptical Pope Urban VIII.... The records describe him soaring high with grace and always landing gently, and for the latter, he became the patron of airline passengers. He was canonized, though, not for these feats, but for his kindness, humility, and gentleness. With that gentleness he watches over pilots and passengers alike. This medal of Joseph was handmade at In the Company of Saints."
Dimensions: 1 1/8 (h) x 7/8 (w)
The pendant is also available on a chain in a separate listing. Search for "Cupertino," and it will come up.
