I design, carve, and cast the medals myself (see photos for part of the process). They're wholly original. I cast them in lead-free pewter. Each medal comes with a jump ring, so it can be easily put on a chain. It also comes with a split ring so it can be attached to a key ring, a book or gym bag, etc. The piece comes in a felt jewelry pouch (see packaging photo) with a history card about St. Christina that reads as follows:
"Christina the Astonishing (ca. 1150–1224) is an apt candidate to be the patron of gymnasts because many stories about her depict her moving–soaring, levitating, flying–gracefully through space. One well-known story describes her levitating into the rafters of a church, where she landed silently and gracefully. A priest, baffled, told her to come down, and she did, landing again with precision and grace. Other stories tell of her spending time meditating in trees, places she reached again by moving elegantly through space. One account of her soaring states: "she [like a gymnast] arose full of vigor, stupefying with amazement the whole city, which had witnessed this wonder.” The word “astonishing” has become associated with her because of her extraordinary physical abilities, determination, and spirituality. Her life thus became an inspiration to others to act with such determination, faith, and confidence. This medal, handmade at In the Co. of Saints in Covington, LA, depicts a gymnast in flight. On the back are the words, “St. Christina, Guide Us,” for Christina stuck every landing...."
Dimensions of medal: 1.1 inches high x .8 inches wide
