I design, carve, and cast each piece myself (the pieces are copyrighted). I cast the pieces in modified gypsum with metal powders. We then glaze each piece. The pieces can stand or hang (the back is unglazed and has a hook), can go outside, and each comes with a small "booklet" stating:

"Julian, born in England in 1342, was an anchoress in the medieval city of Norwich. A medieval anchoress like Julian lived in a cell built into the wall of a church. Julian's function was to pray, to be still, and to give counsel to any who sought her advice. Many medieval anchoresses kept cats as mousers, and a longstanding legend has it that Julian too had a cat in her cell: a stained-glass church window in Norwich, for instance, shows Julian with her cat. Julian’s association with calm, with countering anxiety, comes from the best-known statement in her great religious text, Showings: “All shall be well; all shall be well; all manner of things shall be well.” This small statue of Julian and her cat was handmade by Hank Schlau and handpainted by Karen Schlau."

Dimensions: 5.25 x 5.25 x 1.5 inches
